Ramos Pinto Port was founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos-Pinto this famous house was taken over in 1990 when Champagne Louis Roederer became the majority shareholder. Four Ramos Pinto Quintas are situated in the Cima-Corgo and the Douro Superior. These vineyards provide the majority of grapes in order to have maximum control over the quality of the wines and thereby maintaining their philosophy of controlling all stages of production.
Five grape varieties are used, Touruga Nacional, Touriga Francesca, Tinto Barocca, Tinto Cao and Roriz. The house has carried out extensive research into vine varieties for Port production and their findings have been accepted as the official recommendations by the authorities.
Ramos Pinto pioneered the study and use of vertical planting - which has since led to the mechanisation of the vineyards and was the first house in the Duoro to plant a whole Quinta with selected grape varieties.
Ramos Pinto Collector Port
Continuing the line of the Ruby we come to the "Reserva". Several wine samples are brought into the tasting room - some young (2, 3 or 4 years old), some middle-aged (7, 8 or 9 years old).
Out of these lots a 5 year old blend is created, a wine that takes us back to our origins, to the earth, to a sense of power, heat and red fruits.
Irreverent, firm, full of sanguine fruit, a wine that brings to mind the efforts made by our ancestors.
A delightful wine that can be enjoyed in the mid-afternoon, slightly cooled (15 -18C) in hot weather, to accompany cheeses, cold meats or chocolates.
Colour : This ruby Port has the vibrant colour of youth, with a red-brown rim, the only visual concession to maturity.
Flavour : Full aromas unveil dry plum, fig and berry scents with a touch of pepper.
Palate : In the mouth, the impact is soft and succulent. A rich, subtle wine, with a fine, generous structure and remarkable persistence.
Serving Suggestions : Due to its characteristics, it can be served aside dried fruit sweets and goes well with good conversation at the end of a meal.
