Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Rouvrettes, Burgundy, France The 1er Cru Rouvrettes represents very good value in an otherwise expensive area to shop around in. The tannins and acidity are very much present, yet restrained. The balance of fruit, spice and sous-bois characters is what really sets the wine apart from its peers. The wine is neither shy, nor showy with its strawberry and damson fruit, and there is a subtle amount of both savoury and sweet spice from the wood. With five plus years maturity, there are also notes of forest floor and mushroom beginning to emerge, but the fruit and freshness still shine above.
