A tropical pearl, similar to tapioca.
Of exotic origin, sago is a type of starch taken from the centre of tropical palm stems. Naturally full of carbohydrates sago is a low fat, wholesome ingredient for cooking dishes such as Indian cuisine. Sago pearls, have a similar taste and texture to tapioca pearls but are not to be confused. Although they come from similar plants, Sago comes from the centre, or the pith of tropical plants and tapioca comes from the root, but both have a soft, light and chewy texture.
