A dry, thirst-quenching white with juicy pear, apple, floral and herby notes. Light-bodied, and very refreshing, with natural acidity from the Bacchus grape, and 11% alcohol. ‘Fumé’ means smoked, as with the Loire Valley’s Pouilly-Fumé, where the soils are said to give a light flinty, smoky taste that imparts intensity and elegance in the wine. It’s sometimes thought that this also refers to an oaked character, but there are no oaky notes in this wine. It was aged very gently in older oak barrels, adding finesse and smoothness, with no oaky taste. It’s great with fresh/smoked seafood, creamy risottos and cheeses, or as a delicious glass anytime.
